HEARTLAND HEROES PAID PRACTICUM/INTERNSHIP

$4,500 Stipend
(9-month year)
For outstanding Graduate Students in the Behavioral Health Sciences who identify as people of color.

HeartLand Child and Family Services offers a stipend of $500 per month for graduate students in their second year of coursework toward clinical degrees in social work, marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health counseling, counseling psychology or similar graduate programs.

In our commitment to furthering racial equity, diversity and inclusion in the field of community mental health, HeartLand is seeking outstanding students who identify as black, indigenous, or people of color who have a passion for work with children and families.

WHO WE ARE:
For forty years HeartLand (formerly Terkensha Associates) has been embedded in the North Sacramento community. Serving children, teens and transitional age youth from age two through twenty-one, our mental health team provides therapy, behavioral support, advocacy and psychiatric care to help children and families cope with life stressors and trauma. Our clinics in the Del Paso Heights, Arden Arcade and South Sacramento communities of Sacramento serve about 800 clients and their families. Our skilled treatment team takes a holistic approach to each client’s needs– providing services using evidence based practices in a variety of locations and teaming with the family and significant others to ensure that all factors in the client’s life are considered and supported.

  • Passionate about working with children and families providing early interventions for complex issues
  • An energetic, eager to learn, highly motivated, flexible, compassionate individual
  • Interested in working with clients and families of different racial, cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Willing to commit at least 20 hours per week for two semesters in order to become fully integrated as a valued team member
  • Interested in full time employment as a clinician with HeartLand after graduation
